Anna McRee Bakker grew up in upstate South Carolina where she fostered a love for all creatures great and small from the Appalachian foothills to the coastal marshland. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Maryville College in east Tennessee, she completed her veterinary education at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville, where she got to work with a variety of species under mentorship of the exotic and zoological medicine faculty. She continued to pursue specialization in nondomestic companion animal medicine and surgery with a zoological medicine internship at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge. She then moved to the Nashville area and started private clinical practice in 2015. She loves to see not only all of the furry canine and feline companions but also the scaled, quilled, and feathered friends. In her spare time she runs a small farmstead in Lewisburg with her own little “zoo” including two horses, four goats, a senior yorkie, two Guatemalan turtles, two cats, and two tiny humans with her husband Scott. She also dedicates some of her professional service at the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere to promote learning and conservation of all species.
